The Africa Arbitration Academy has won the “2023 GAR Award for Sustainable Behavior” at the Award Ceremony held in Paris on Thursday 30 March 2023. This is indeed a significant recognition for the Academy’s Model Bilateral Investment Treaty for African States published in 2022.

Chair of the Drafting Committee of the Model BIT, Dr. Abayomi Okubote, FCIArb notes “It has been truly fulfilling working with a diverse and talented group of practitioners from over 10 African countries, as Chair of the Drafting Committee of the Africa Arbitration Academy Model Bilateral Investment Treaty for African States (AAA Model BIT). The AAA Model BIT presents a modest contribution to the ISDS discourse and promotes the codification of African States’ investment policies and laws. There are four important features of the AAA Model BIT – Africanisation, innovation, reforms, and sustainability.”
